This wood carving was used to decorate the ox carts that were widely used in Burma. It was carved in the shape of the mythical beast Chinthe. Clinthe is a half-lion and half-dragon creature that is believed to provide protection and auspiciousness. It was widely used as the guardian for the temple entrance and other daily design in Southeast Asia.
